The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has released a communication industry standard for mobile phone camera image stabilization.

Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) released the "Technical Requirements and Test Methods for Image and Video Stabilization Performance of Mobile Terminals," which is also the industry standard for camera stabilization communication in mobile terminals such as smartphones. It applies to all mobile phones and mobile terminal devices sold in China by global brand mobile phone manufacturers.
The announcement shows that this industry standard specifies the technical requirements, test environment, and test methods for the image and video stabilization performance of mobile terminal camera equipment. It applies to mobile terminals with camera or video stabilization functions (products with stabilization technologies such as OIS, EIS, integrated stabilization, or other technologies). The announcement states that other devices can also refer to this standard.
It is understood that this standard was jointly developed over four years by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) and Aipei Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., along with mobile phone manufacturers such as Huawei, OPPO, VIVO, and Samsung, and has strong industry guiding significance.
According to the 5G standard, there are many built-in antennas in different frequency bands, and the combination of multiple cameras in a mobile phone often occupies a large area of the overall phone surface. This area also contains voice components and is subject to significant issues such as multi-frequency magnetic field interference, testing the overall layout and stacking of internal components. Magnetic interference from multi-camera, multi-stabilized cameras is one of the technical challenges of internal component stacking in the 5G era. Traditional camera modules have very weak resistance to magnetic interference. The development of optical image stabilization (OIS) technology has significantly improved the interference issues caused by 5G antennas and multiple cameras.
Hong Hangqing, Chairman of Aipei Optoelectronics Technology Co., Ltd., stated that mobile phone photography can be affected by various factors such as moving objects, hand tremors, and low light, potentially resulting in blurry photos or images. Traditional autofocus is slow, while OIS and fast autofocus technologies can lock and focus on the subject within 6 milliseconds, significantly improving image quality and reducing the computational burden on AI software. He added that Chinese companies are also relatively advanced in the research and development of liquid lens technology and products, having established related patent portfolios early on and currently holding numerous invention patents. This will provide consumers with a better shooting experience in variable macro and telephoto lenses.
